Robert E. Brummund, 95, died Wednesday, March 27th at Tiffany Square. A funeral service will be on Monday, April 1st at 11 am at Trinity United Methodist Church’s Gollaher Chapel. Pastor Kelly Karges will officiate. Family will receive friends for a half hour prior to the service. All Faiths Funeral home is serving the family. Robert was born September 22, 1923 on the family farm outside Doniphan to Reinhold and Olga (Meyer) Brummund. Except for a few years, he lived his entire life on this family farm which he loved passionately. Robert was the oldest of three children. Robert received his education in rural Hamilton County. When his father died, he took over the family farm at a young age. On May 27, 1945, Robert married Audrey Bayne. They shared life for 69 years. Together they raised 5 children. While the children were in school, Robert served many years on the Giltner school board. His biggest joy in life was working the soil, planting, watching the crops grow and harvesting. He never tired of the constant cycle and found delight in the changing seasons. Robert loved the land and helped with the farming until a short time prior to his death. On a warm evening you would find Robert sitting outside watching the traffic go by and enjoying the view of his crops. He saw many changes in how farming was done during his life culminating in the modern operation that it is today. Robert also raised and fattened cattle. For many years he made regular trips to the sale barn in Omaha with the fattened cattle. He has always been a conscientious caretaker of the land. Robert is survived by children: Robert (Kandy) Brummund, Gail (Debbra) Brummund, and Jan Brummund of Grand Island, Larry (Kathy) Brummund of Doniphan and Diane Pokorney of Dannebrog. He also leaves grandchildren Angie, Stacey, Barry (Jennifer), Chris, Chad (Amy), Brian (Emily), Brad (Jennifer), Jason (Renae), and Justin Brummund plus 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. In addition, he is survived by sister Caroline McDannel of Grand Island. He was preceded in death by his wife Audrey in 2014, his parents, twin grandchildren, Cory and Kristin Brummund, and a brother, Dale.
