Nora’s Obituary Nora Virginia (Rexrode) Alford, 100, a resident of Lyndhurst, VA, passed away Friday, March 1, 2019 peacefully in her sleep at home. A daughter of the late Ernest and Ressie Rexrode, she was born May 29, 1918 in Rockingham County, VA. A longtime member of Mountain Top Christian Church, Mrs. Alford was an avid bowler, golfer and gardener. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ward H. Alford. Surviving are her son, Butch Alford and his wife Jane of Love, VA; daughter, Nancy Newell and her husband Bo of Charlottesville, VA; 4 grandchildren, Andy Hernandez, Benjamin Hernandez, Rene Alford, and Christopher Alford; and 3 great-grandchildren. She was the oldest of 11 children, and is survived by Berley Rexrode of Ft. Wayne, IN, Roy Rexrode of Waynesboro, VA, Genevieve Allebaugh of Waynesboro, VA, and Linda Carr of Stuarts Draft, VA. She also leaves behind her cat “Fancy”. The family is planning a memorial service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Almost Home Pet Adoption Center, 29 Stage Bridge Road, Lovingston, VA 22949.
