Mary Lou Reeves Duke, age 90, of Lexington died peacefully Saturday evening in Jackson, TN with family at her side. Mary Lou was the first born to Bradley Carmon and Alma Frances Douglas Reeves on November 24, 1928. Both she and her High School and neighborhood sweetheart Husband Van L Duke were raised in Darden, TN. Their married life, however, was lived primarily in the Bargerton / Union Cross area of Henderson County on their farm surrounded by good neighbors. Mary Lou is survived by one son, Johnny Lawton Duke (Anne) of Lexington, one daughter Teresa Ann Duke Holimon (Wayne) of Germantown, TN, 3 grandchildren Randall Lawton Duke (Elizabeth), Amy Michalle Duke Berryman (Joe), Holly Anne Duke Overman (Daniel), 7 great-grandchildren (Lindsay Abigail (Abby) Duke, Kaylee Isabelle Duke, Joshua Lawton Duke, Caleb Michael Berryman, Jase Luke Berryman, Harrison Lane Overman, and RayBritt Hunter Overman. She leaves all her siblings, 2 brothers Nelson Carmon Reeves (Billie Jean), Hubert Wayne Reeves, 3 sisters Doris Frances Reeves Mays, Bettie Jane Reeves Mobley (Henry), Judith Ann Reeves Hendrix (Glenn)and her long-standing special neighborhood friends John Robert and Bobbie Jean Cody James and their daughter Teresa Lynn. Her remaining “Duke” in-laws include Guy Loyce Duke of Jackson, Linda Scates Duke of Darden and Nancy Duke of Hendersonville. She also leaves a host of dearly beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 57 years Van Lawton Duke and her parents Bradley Carmon and Alma Frances Douglas Reeves of Darden and multiple in-laws she loved as her own. Mary Lou enjoyed cooking, sewing related hobbies, and loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and The Poplar Corner Pentecostal Church. She was a faithful, hard-working and loving companion for her equally hard-working husband over all their years together. She led by example and was known as the “Family Prayer Warrior”. She, along with family, appreciated so many folks especially in the later years. Special appreciation extended to her full-time young caregiver Courtney Woods Rickman, her Physical Therapist Aid Laurie Sanders, baby sister Judy and her local physicians Warren Ramer Jr, and Dr. Kevin Stroup with nurse Janna. Visitation is Tuesday evening 5 pm-8 pm, Wednesday 8 am until funeral services at 10:30 all at Reeds Chapel. Burial will immediately follow at Poplar Corner Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Poplar Corner Cemetery Fund, the Alzheimer’s Association or the organization of your choice.
