Hudson Falls Joseph Derway, 89, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2019 at his home. Born on November 15, 1929, in Hudson Falls, he was the son of Joseph and Lillian (Murray) Derway. Joe always had a smile on his face, and everyone loved him to the end. Joe attended Glens Falls High School upon graduation entered the United States Navy in 1952. Joe married Shirley Chandler on July 24, 1954 at St. Alphonsus in Glens Falls. They spent 43 years together until her passing in May of 1997. They had eight beautiful children together. They enjoyed going camping, taking long rides and most of all spending time with their large family. In recent years Joe was lucky enough to find a second family with his companion Minnie Cormie. After many years of service Joe retired from General Electric in Fort Edward. He really enjoyed his retirement and riding his bike all over Hudson Falls. In addition to his parents and wife, Joe was predeceased by his brothers, Cliff and Donald Derway; his sister, Ruth Richards; his grandchildren, Audrey and Bobby Derway; his son-in-law, John Kelly. Left to cherish his memory include his children, Nancy Kelly, Jim (Kathy) Derway, Kathy Ross (Peter Ingelston), Mike (Nancy) Derway, Robert (Tabetha) Derway, David (Jennifer) Derway, Bill (Kelli) Derway and Joseph Derway III (Jamie Zeno); his grandchildren, Carrie, Adam, Chad, Nathaniel, Andy, James, Jeremy, Trenton, Tyler, Julia, Sarah, Caitlyn, Keirnan, Emily, Ally, Haley, Joey and Alaidriale; 11 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Doris Derway and Harold (Joan) Derway; his brother-in-law, Lee Richards; his sister-in-law, Connie Derway; his longtime companion, Minnie Cormie; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call from 4 to 7 on Tuesday, April 2, 2019 at M.B. Kilmer Funeral Home, 136 Main Street, South Glens Falls, NY 12803. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9am on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, at St. Mary’s/ St. Paul’s, Hudson Falls on the park. Rite of Committal will be private and at the convenience of the family.
