Jeanne Doane Burford 1923 2019

Obituary of Jeanne Doane Burford Jeanne Doane Burford of Churchville, Pa. passed peacefully Friday March 15, 2019 at Pickering Manor in Newtown. She was surrounded by her friends, the caring staff of Pickering, and the devoted members of Kindred Hospice Care. She was 95 years old. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty years: William G. Burford and her daughter Betsy Ann Burford-Hunnewell. Jeanne is survived by her son Bruce Burford of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Born December 1, 1923, and raised in Glenside Pa. Jeanne was a graduate of Abington High School class of 1941, and, upon receiving a four-year scholarship to the Moore College of Art, a graduate of the class of 1945. She was a member of the Bucks County Art Alliance, the Woodmere Art Gallery, the Abington Art Center and the Philadelphia Water Color Society that awarded her the Society’s prestigious Crest Award. Jeanne developed a personal watercolor technique which captured her interest and study in local nature and pastoral scenes. She was recognized with multiple art awards which included: 1st Prize for Watercolor, 1972, Phillips Mill, New Hope, Pa., from the same an honorable mention in 1974, and 1st Prize for Watercolor, 1978, Yardley, Pa. Art Show. In her private studio she taught art classes to elementary, middle, high school and adult students. Jeanne loved her dogs and the holidays. She enjoyed reading, gardening, birding, collecting, writing, time with friends and family and anything to do with art. She maintained her family’s histories and recorded her own personal journals. Jeanne especially enjoyed her eighty-odd summers spent at the family’s vacation home Quest Over located on the banks of the Mad River in Campton, N.H. She was a member of the North and Southampton Reformed Church in Churchville, a devout Christian and an advocate for all things true and beautiful. Jeanne Doan Burford is a legend, and she has left a legacy. Her beloved students regale the memory of her teachings, the skills taught and the life lessons learned. Her paintings and collections remain in homes and public displays. Her friends peacefully recall happy time’s together, great conversations, and the warmth of a caring soul. Friends and relatives are invited to attend a graveside service Thursday April 11th, 10:30 am at the North and Southampton Reformed Church on Bristol Rd. in Churchville. In lieu of flowers, it is requested donations be sent to the Churchville Nature Center, 501 Churchville Lane, Churchville, Pa. 18956
