Jean C. Martin, 90, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2019. Jean was born August 24, 1928 in Monroe County to Hugh and Hazel Creech. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bloomfield where she enjoyed being involved in CWF activities. For many years she taught Sunday School and directed, taught, and helped with Vacation Bible School. Jean was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She created a home full of love for her husband and four children. On April 24, 1945, she married Emerson O. Martin. They spent the next 64 years raising and enjoying a “wonderful family” as each of them would say. Survivors include two daughters: Ellen Mize (Monty) and Tina Miller, and one son, David Martin (Jodi); nine grandchildren: Rebecca Zobel (Doug), Bethany Newsom, Rachel Knoll (Geoffrey), Brian Miller (Andrea), Jordan Spaethe, Alex Miller (Brittanie), Kelsey Miller, Joshua and Ethan Martin; Seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Samantha Zobel, Ava and Braden Newsom, Lillian Spaethe, Jefferick Majors, and Annabelle Miller. She will also be remembered with love by her three siblings: her brother Paul Creech (Sammie), and her sisters, Betty Lou Swaffard, and Virginia Atwell. Her Sunday school class members, her neighbors who called her Grandma Jean, and her CWF and bridge friends were precious to her. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her daughter Jane Martin. Burial will be at Chambersville Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be at First Christian Church in Bloomfield on April 13 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be at the Church from 11:30 to 1:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to Riley Children’s Hospital.
