Harolyn’s Obituary Harolyn Carol Lathrop, 73, of Excelsior Springs, died Tuesday, March 5, 2019, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Harolyn was born on August 6, 1945, in Wyandotte County, KS, the daughter of Harold Harvey and Edna Ruth (Newland) Barbee, Sr. She was united in marriage to Robert Allen Lathrop of Rondo, AR, on February 3, 1962. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include: two daughters: Loretta (Don) Ledford of Excelsior Springs and Debra (Steve) Vaughn of Liberty; one brother Harold Harvey Barbee, Jr. of Kansas City, KS; four grandchildren: Karrie (Michael) Shepard, April (Larry) Everett, Shane (Jaci) Ledford, and Chris Ledford; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Ruth Ellen Boller and Betty Jean Perry. Harolyn had lived most of her life in Excelsior Springs. Her work history included: driving buses for the Excelsior Springs School District, working at Whittaker Cable in Excelsior Springs, as a resident advisor for Job Corps, and as a housekeeper at Valley Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation; her last job was as a housekeeper in North Kansas City Hospital and she retired as a floor technician. Harolyn was of the Christian faith and founding pastor of Rejoice Fellowship of Ray County. Her hobbies and interests included crocheting Afghans for her friends, with which she always included a Bible. Harolyn also enjoyed coloring and loved her two pugs, Pugly and Vader. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street – P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
