David’s Obituary David Averil Groom, age 78, of Lenoir, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care-Kirkwood surrounded by his family. He was born April 4, 1940 in Allegheny County, a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Charles Averil and Mary Elizabeth Ifft Groom. Mr. Groom was a graduate of the University of Michigan with a B. S. and M.S. in Wood Technology. He was a member of Trigon Fraternity and the Society of Les Voyageurs. Before starting a lifelong career in the wood industry he was an instructor at West Virginia University School of Forestry. Dave worked in quality control and manufacturing for several furniture companies. At Bernhardt in Lenoir he was a traveling consultant to Asia. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lenoir and the Caldwell Aeromodelers. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dotty; one son, Douglas Averil Groom; one daughter, Karen Elizabeth Osborne and husband Chad; one brother, Dr. Donald Groom; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at The United Church of Christ, Lenoir, NC conducted by Rev. Beth Ann Miller. The family will receive friends following the service.
