Cleo C. Sparks, 94, of Columbus, passed from this life at 12:30 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2019 at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Mr. Sparks was born June 10, 1024, in Hancock County, Indiana, the son of Elijah and Grace Shroyer Sparks. On April 21, 1945, Cleo married Norma Wilkerson. She preceded him in death May 10, 2006. Early in life, Mr. Sparks worked for Thompson Dairy. He later started a career with Cummins Engine Company where he would retire in 1989 after 20 years of service. Mr. Sparks had a huge passion for his Model A and he was a faithful member of the Model A Restorers Club. He also enjoyed membership in the CREAK Club. For many years, Mr. Sparks wintered in Lake Wales, Florida. Mr. Sparks is survived by his daughter, Connie (Gary) Lawless of Columbus; a grandson, Eric Lawless of Columbus; and great-granddaughters, Alexandria Lawless of Bloomington and Emma Lawless of Columbus. Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Grace Sparks; his wife, Norma; a brother, Herman Sparks; and sisters, Velma Arthur and Zelma Graham. The funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. until service time Tuesday. Mr. Sparks will be laid to rest next to his wife at Garland Brook Cemetery.
