Antoinette DiRenzo Farrin May 2 1933 March 24 2019

Antoinette (DiRenzo) Farrin, (Ann, Andy) born on 05/02/1933 In Portland, Maine Daughter of Antonio DiRenzo and Assunta (DiFiore) DiRenzo Passed away at the age of 85 surrounded by family at her home in Westbrook, ME on Sunday March 24, 2019 Antoinette was a long-time resident of Westbrook, ME. She began working for the family business at the age of 14, Matty’s Dine and Dance. Ann took on various roles including cleaning the rooming house upstairs, waitressing, cooking in the kitchen and assisting in the dining room. She went on to work more than 20 years at the Sportsman’s Grill, a prominent Italian restaurant in Portland. She continued her work in food and beverage at both Arthur’s and The Cornerstone restaurants in Westbrook. It was at the Cornerstone where she was joined by both her daughters, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. Ann was not afraid of hard work. In fact, she was still volunteering at Ledgeview Assisted Living four days a week and at the Community Center in Portland at the age of 76. Ann was an avid bowler and member of the Greater Portland Bowling Association. She was the Maine State and city champ for many years as well as the Maine State delegate where she participated in bowling tournaments in many states. A member of the American Legion and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles for over 60 years. In her free time, you could find Ann on the dance floor, playing bingo, or hitting the poker table at the casino. She was nicknamed “Fan Farrin” as she attended all sport activities that her children and grandchildren participated in. She not only attended but also brought snacks for the team. Even in the pouring rain you could count on her to be there, the only fan in the stands. Ann became a single mother at the age of 25, raising four children under the age of six, following separation from her first husband, Nicholas D’Alfonso. Ann met this challenge working several jobs to provide for her family. She met and married her second husband, William G. Farrin in 1965 and had her fifth child in 1971 a daughter. Ann suffered a stroke in 2010. She was left with right sided weakness and expressive dysphasia. After months of rehabilitation, she regained the strength to return to her own home. Ann’s daughter Lena took on a role that allowed her to be her mother’s primary caregiver. Lena continued to care for her mom for nine years following her stroke. As Ann’s health declined, Lena arranged to spend her days and nights by Ann’s side. Their bond was one of love, trust, friendship, as well as mother and daughter. Ann is survived by her children, Nicholas G D’Alfonso and his wife Mellissa of Westbrook, Diane M. Pike and her husband David of Portland, Samuel R. D’Alfonso and wife Cindy of Windham, Lena M.
