Obituary of Myrtle Precht Myrtle Precht, age 84, of Bird Island died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at RC Hospital in Olivia. Mass of Christian Burial is Friday, September 28th at 1:15 p.m.at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bird Island with Rev. George Schmit as celebrant. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and continues there Friday from 12:00 noon to 1:15 p.m. Arrangements are with Dirks-Blem Funeral Service of Olivia. Myrtle Frances Precht was born October 5, 1933 in Bird Island, MN, to Walter and Matilda (Prokosch) Welsh. She grew up at Bird Island and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1951. After high school she worked at Eiseleins Department Store in Bird Island and then moved to Minneapolis where she was employed at an insurance agency. She later returned to Bird Island and worked at the Renville County Hospital in the Records Department. Myrtle married Lester Precht on July 26, 1958 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and they were blessed with four children. Myrtle and Lester first made their home in Hector and in 1962 moved to Bird Island where they have resided ever since. Myrtle was employed as a Librarian Aid at BOLD School in Bird Island from 1971-2005. She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the CCW, and had taught religious education. She was also a member of the Bird Island Legion Auxiliary. Myrtle had enjoyed tending her flower gardens, watching classic movies, decorating for Christmas, and attending garage sales. She was devoted in saying the rosary, was an avid reader, and loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A very important part of Les and Myrtle’s life was having spent 50 summers at R&D Resort in the Park Rapids area. Myrtle is survived by her husband Lester Precht of Bird Island; her four children: Roger (and Kay) Precht of Bird Island, Nancy (and Steve) Takle of Alexandria, Cindy (and Steve) Shahan of Albert Lea and Carrie (and Kyle) Ryer of Granite Falls; her 13 grandchildren: Dean (and Kelsey) Precht, Triston Precht, Allison Precht, Bob Takle, Emily Takle (and fiancé Jake Pearson), Erin Takle, Brett Takle, Riley McLaughlin (and special friend Travis Schweiger), Ryan McLaughlin, Eric (and Nicole) Shahan and Spencer Shahan, Chelsey (and Joe) Guzman, and Paige Ryer (and fiancé Carlos Esquivel); her two great-grandchildren: McKenna Precht and Kysen Precht; her siblings: Jeanette Larson, Walter “Bud” (and Sylvia) Welsh, Charlene Thole, Larry (and Sara) Welsh, Ronnie (and Myrna) Welsh, Carol (and Johnny) Norris, and Russ (and Donna) Welsh; and many nieces and nephews. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Jim (and Adeline) Welsh; her brothers-in-law Paul Larson and Ray Thole; and her two infant grandchildren Rachel and Ron Precht.
