John Cecil Thorne 2018

John Cecil Thorne Jr., 83, of Parkersburg passed away Thursday, September 27, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family and friends. He was born April 30, 1935 in Parkersburg to the late John Cecil Thorne Sr. and Thelma (Milhoan) Thorne. He worked with his parents at their A.W. Thorne Store in Elizabeth. Cecil then went on to work at the Ames Co. Plant #2 as a foreman later promoted to plant superintendent, retiring after 36 years of service. During this time, he attended Parkersburg Community College as well as Wittenberg College. He attended South Parkersburg United Methodist Church. Cecil loved fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking and spending time with his sons, grandchildren and friends. One of his great passions was spending time at the family farm. He was so proud of his grandchildren and being called “Poppy”. Cecil is survived by his loving wife Delores Ann of 61 years; three sons, Roger, Phillip, and Craig Thorne, four grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his baby daughter Kathryn Ann Thorne and sister Sarah Kathryn Wilson. Memorial service will be held 11 AM Saturday, October 6, 2018 at South Parkersburg United Methodist Church with Reverend Jim Plyburn officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial service will be at K of P Cemetery in Elizabeth at a later date. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Housecalls Hospice for their prayers and kind, active, gentle care and response. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Parkersburg United Methodist Church 1813 Rayon Drive Parkersburg, WV 26101
