John A. Ackeret, age 82 of Seymour, IN passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018 at home. Born July 26, 1936 in Seymour, he was the son of Harry G. and Myrtle (Russell) Ackeret, Sr. On December 24, 1958 in Seymour, he married Beverly McClintock. While they were divorced later, they remained friends until her time of death in 2014. John worked several jobs where layoffs and shut downs had an impact on him providing for his family. During his Sales Career, he won many awards and trips to fabulous places around the world which included, Hawaii, Switzerland, France, Germany, Bermuda, Washington D.C. and many more. His family enjoyed several of the trips and many fond memories were made. Sunday evenings were a special time in the Ackeret home where everyone gathered to watch Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom. John was very proud to be a part of a great company that sponsored the program. He served in the U.S Army as a medic and paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division (“Angels”) from March 1954 to February 1957, He was a member of Central Christian Church in Seymour. He was a lifetime member of VFW and a member of the St. Johns Masonic Lodge #20, Disabled Veterans of America and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #655. He enjoyed spending time boating, water skiing, camping, hunting, fishing, playing cards, vacations to beaches and mountains, as well as an occasional road trip here or there to the casinos. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved family and friends. He was a compassionate and giving man when it came to his family and friends. Survivors include his four daughters, Tammrae McMahon of Mount Vernon, IL, Carol (Tony) McKinney of Seymour, IN, Michelle (Danny) Workman of Versailles, KY and Karen Ackeret of Seymour, IN. He also leaves behind his best friend of 23 years Paul Thompson of Seymour, IN and their buddy, Jovi, a miniature pinscher. Grandchildren, Dr. Kenton (Chelsea) McMahon, Kristin (Brian) Bear, Nicholas McMahon (Tara Brookman), Zachary (Kayla Henderson) Wade, Alison (Josh) Daniel, Jessika Dunn. Great-grandchildren Calvin Creech, Riley Bear, Haydn McMahon, Reece Daniel, Abigail Kelley, Luke Kelley, Leighton McMahon, Sloan McMahon, and Hallee Dunn. Siblings, Janet Ziegler, Ed Ackeret, Marcia Merrick, Brenda Collins and Scott Ackeret. Beside his parents and former wife, he was preceded in death by siblings Harry Ackeret, Jr., Russell Ackeret and Sherry (Ackeret) Houser. Visitation will be on Saturday, September 29th from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Woodlawn Life Celebration Centre, 311 Holiday Sq. Rd. Seymour, IN. A Masonic Ceremony to immediately follow the visitation and Services will be at 3:00 PM. Military Service and Burial will be on Monday, October 1 at 11:00 AM at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, IN.
