Obituary for Alton Tanksley Alton Tanksley April 18, 1944-September 5, 2018 Alton Tanksley, 74, of North Liberty, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. He was born April 18, 1944 in Multon, Alabama, the son of Price Tanksley and Lucy (Cheney) Tanksley. Alton retired in 1991 as a roofer, working for Knickerbocker Roofing and Paving. He was a member of the American Legion Post 400 “Fish Lake”. On June 8, 1963, in New Buffalo, Michigan, he married Bonnie (Aikman) Tanksley who preceded in death April 25, 1993. He is survived by his three sons, Bryan (Kathleen) Tanksley of La Porte, IN, Mark (Kimberly) Tanksley of La Porte, IN, Jason (Sara) Tanksley of La Porte, IN; daughter, Ellen (Raymond) Borkowski of Rolling Prairie, IN; four brothers, Irv Tanksley of Fish Lake, IN, Alfred Tanksley of La Porte, IN, Dafford (Carmalee) Tanksley of La Porte, IN, Junior (Barbara) Tanksley of North Liberty, IN; three sisters, Wanda (Robert) Kinsey of La Porte, IN, Sarah Leach of La Porte, IN, Virginia (Kenneth) Hohaleck of La Porte, IN; eight grandchildren, Brad, Zachary, Megyn, Ryan, Jacob, Jonathan, Justin, Jeanette; two great-granddaughters, Anna, Jenna; sister-in-law, Carol Tanksley of La Porte, IN; two brother-in-laws, George Robert (Rosemary) Aikman of La Porte, IN, Edward (Sue) Aikman of Hamlet, IN. Alton was preceded in death by both his parents; brother, Waylen Tanksley; sister-in-law, Betty Tanksley. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Wednesday, September 12, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Thursday, September 13, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Hines officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the to the family of Alton Tanksley.
