Joy Lee Carter 2018

On June 29, 2018, in the early morning, Joy Lee Carter, passed away peacefully from her earthly world to join her Mommy, Daddy, brothers, and sisters who left this earth before her. She was loved beyond measure. She would want everyone to know that she loved the Lord, and heaven awaited her. She was born on April 7, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio. The daughter of Dewey and Vennie Rigsby who preceded her in death. She never failed to refer to them as Mommy and Daddy. On September 23, 1962, she married the love of her life Leonard D. Carter, who survives. They built their home on Blain Highway, in Waverly, Ohio. They raised two daughters, Robin Thompson, and Tracy Carter-Oates, who also survive. She was the proud Granny of Tristen (Melissa) Carter, Jarred (Bethany) Oates, Zachary Thompson, Logan Oates, Lindsey Oates, and Brady Thompson. She was honored to be the Great Grandma to Gracie Ruth and Isaac David Carter, and Avery Rose Oates. She enjoyed keeping up online with all of her loved ones. In addition to her husband, daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, she is survived by her big sister Emmarie (Dale) Arrowood, her brothers Delbert (Violet) Rigsby, John (Della) Rigsby, and Burt (Betty) Rigsby. Her Carter family Ellen (Cliff Hughes) Claytor, Joyce Tackett, and Janie Brannan also survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William “Bill” Rigsby and Raymond Rigsby; three sisters, Thelma Tackett, Eve Wilson, and her baby sister, Darlene (Edward) Carter. Darlene was the Louise to her Thelma and was no doubt waiting for her as she crossed into Heaven ̶ waiting on yet another adventure. She was also preceded in death by her brothers-in-law Harlan Ray (LuAnn) Carter, Bruce Carter, and Okie Carter, and her brother in law Edward Harold (Darlene) Carter. Joy is also survived by her precious nieces Kelly Mettler, Marsha Stewart, Aleta Arrowood, and nephew JR Carter. She will forever by held in the hearts of many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Joy was a talented seamstress who created many dresses, quilts, and gifts for her family. She worked at Kmart in Waverly, Ohio, and was the owner of “Angels of Joy”, a business through which she sold her handmade items. More than anything, she loved her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was so proud to be their “Granny” and loved being involved in everything they did. She will be remembered for her unconditional love, her amazing ability to make lemon meringue pie, homemade rolls from scratch, and a knack for finding something wrong with those perfect creations at every family meal! A funeral will be held at 11am on Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at Boyer Funeral Home in Waverly, Ohio with Pastor Rick Hartley officiating. Burial will follow at the Huntington Township Cemetery.
