Obituary of Fjola Salerno Fjola Gudjonsdottir Salerno, 92, formerly of Steelton, died Tuesday, July 24, 2018 in her daughters home in Mechanicsburg, surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 1, 1926, in Iceland, the daughter of the late Gudjon Magnusson and Gudrun Einarsdottir and was the widow of Augustin J. “Hank” Salerno whom she met during his service as a United States Staff Sergeant, in Iceland, during World War II. Fjola was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 6 sisters. She is survived by her loving daughter, Rose Ann Salerno Carr and husband Martin Carr, Mechanicsburg, Amma (Grandmother) to Marietta Rose Carr, Westlake, Ohio and Augustin John (A.J.) Carr and wife Jessica, Harrisburg and Great-Amma to Ellis Carr; many nieces and nephews. She was a member of the former St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Steelton and a member of Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Parish, Steelton. She retired as a Supervisor with 35 years of Faithful Service from Iceland Seafood Corporation, Camp Hill. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 12:30 pm in Prince of Peace – Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church, 815 South Second Street, Steelton, with the Very Rev. David L. Danneker, Pastor, Celebrant. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018 from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm in Wiedeman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 357 South Second Street, Steelton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bishop McDevitt High School – Legacy Fund, 1 Crusader Way, Harrisburg, PA 17111 or Daughters of Our Lady of Mercy, 1009 Main Road, Newfield, NJ 08344-5348.
