Obituary for Mrs. Bonnie L. McKay Bonnie L. McKay, 71, of Columbus, passed from this life at 3:26 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Columbus Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. Bonnie married John W. McKay on April 2, 1966. Bonnie was a wonderful partner in marriage to her husband John, who occasionally and affectionately used the nickname, “Rib,” for Bonnie as an expression of God providing a helpmate for man. They truly were partners in ministry. Bonnie was a member of First Baptist Church and was very active in American Baptist Women’s Ministries of Indiana (ABWM) serving on summer conference committee, scholarship chairman, treasurer, and president. She also served as Flatrock Association president and in all of our churches local ABWMs. In her ABWM duties Bonnie was a frequent speaker to churches and women’s groups. She was dynamic, outgoing, and motivating. Bonnie also led children’s ministries at Liberty Center Baptist (1980s), Bethel Baptist Church near Fillmore (1990s), and administrator of Bethel Baptist’s Day Camp (Columbus) from 2004-2008. Bonnie worked in a school library and with migrants in California in 1968-69. She also worked as a bookkeeper and a pharmaceutical technician. Mrs. McKay was born February 7, 1947. She was the daughter of William and Katherine Lee Moore. Surviving is her husband of 52 years; children, Karen (Ed) Fetla of Pinehurst, NC, Mike (Valerie) McKay Medaryville, IN and Mark (Susan) McKay of Floyds Knobs, IN; grandchildren, Luke (Kaira) Fetla, Halli Fetla, Sam Fetla, Drew (Becca) McKay, Alexandra McKay, Brenna McKay, Braden McKay, J.D. McKay and Shannon McKay; They will always remember her encouraging them to have a “Gratitude Attitude” and to “Remember who you are” (a child of Christ). She was a great fan for them in their activities and a doting grandmother. Other survivors include a brother, Larry Moore of Marion; and her sisters, Norma Jean (Paul) Bacon of Upland, Judy Meyer of North Vernon and Barbara (Dale) Scott of Alabama. The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church (3300 Fairlawn Dr., Columbus, IN 47203) with Dr. Daniel Cash and Dr. William Griffith officiating. Family and friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street and 1:30 p.m. to time of service Sunday at the church. Burial will be at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. In 2013 Bonnie was diagnosed with Dementia. She is now in Heaven with her Savior and Bonnie can be Bonnie again.
