Warren Rexrode, 96, of Sugar Grove, WV passed away, Friday, May 11, 2018 at his home and surrounded by family. He was born May 20, 1921 in Sugar Grove, a son of the late John William and Ella Ruth (Rexrode) Rexrode. On February 17, 1947 he married Arvella Jean Propst, who preceded him in death on April 4, 2016. They shared 69 years of marriage. Mr. Rexrode served in the U.S. Army during World War II under the command of George Patton’s Third Army. During the war Mr. Rexrode laid telephone lines for the communication system through France, Germany, Austria and Luxemburg. After returning home, he worked at various jobs throughout his years including seven years as a school bus driver, a guard at the Sugar Grove Navy Base after which he helped to dismantle the tower for scrap, and for the U.S. Forest Service, retiring after 20 years. He enjoyed farming all his life and taking care of his property. Even at 96 years young, he was still mowing and weed eating his property. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, whose favorite hobby was to “work.” He attended Crummetts Run Church of the Brethren. Surviving family members include his children, Gerald Rexrode and wife, Linda Fay, James Rexrode and wife, Judy R., Johnny Rexrode, all of Sugar Grove, Linda Rexrode and husband, Richard and Lois Riggleman and husband, Dennis, all of Franklin and Bill Rexrode and wife, Dolly of Sugar Grove; grandchildren, Teresa Brossart, Diana Kesterson, Dawn Renee Propst, April Cushwa, John Michael Rexrode, Stephanie Harman, Jason Rexrode, Amy Michelle Scott, Jodi Keplinger, Krista Owens and Casey Byers; twenty-six great grandchildren, John, Andy, Carter, Colby, Emily, Nicholas, Makayla, Mia, Jessica, Morgan, Brent, Brandon, Wyatt, Mason, Makenzie, Luke, Anna, Addie, Tyler, Madison, Orion, Keller, Chase, Travis, Micaiah and Karli; five great-great-grandchildren, Genesis, Jeremiah, Noah, Easton and Grayson; as well as a sister Leah Elmore of Roanoke, Va. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two grandsons, Stacey Rexrode and Jeremy Rexrode (infant); sister, Mary Chloe Rexrode; three brothers, Dr. Luther E., Richard W. and W. Herbert Rexrode. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m., Monday, May 14, 2018 at Obaugh Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Brent Cushwa, Brandon Cushwa, Jason Rexrode, John Michael Rexrode, Josh Owens, Elijah Byers, Tyler Scott and Luke Harman. The grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
