Mattie B. Bowers was born January 10, 1929, to Mr. Jonas Bowers and Mae Scott. She was the youngest of two children. She received her education at St. Matthews School in Melrose, Louisiana. She was united in Holy Matrimony on March 9, 1947, to Isiah Tenas, Sr. in Bermuda, Louisiana on Cane River. To this union three children were born Ruby Johnson, Isiah Tenas, Jr. and Sue Tenas. She was baptized at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of Reverend C. M. Davis, Sr. After working for Van Leer Plastics for eighteen years she retired in 1991. After retirement she and Isiah purchased their dream house in Angleton, Texas. She enjoyed anything outdoors, most memorable for her gardening knacks and fishing. She was very competitive and outgoing. Cooking and reading the Sunday comics were some of her favorite past times as well. “Mat” as only her husband, Isiah could say was affectionately called Madea by her grandchildren, loved life and had a smile that would light up any room. She was spunky and sassy until her untimely death. She was everybody’s Madea-sealed with a kiss. God knew Madea was tired and needed rest. On April 14th at 6:45 pm she gently closed her eyes and entered unto eternal sleep. She departed this life in the privacy of her home surrounded by those that loved her most. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Isiah Tenas, Sr., her daughter Sue Tenas, parents, brother, Leroy Bowers, Sr., and grandsons, Dwayne Kirk and Jack Tenas. She is survived by her daughter, Ruby Johnson; son, Isiah Tenas, Jr.; one daughter-in-law, Brenda; grandchildren, Arthur Howard, Sharon Hamilton (Anthony), Rotanda Howard, Judy Alridge (Terrel), Delisha Che’ Jackson (Tano), Darius Tenas, Angela Wright, Aaron Johnson, Jr., Monique Turner (David), Keturah Tenas, Mitchell Dawayne Samuel, J’tika Tenas, Kyle Tenas and Sarah Tenas; and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and special neighbors.
