Obituary of Geraldine DeAngelo BINGHAMTON – Geraldine “Gerry” Elizabeth DeAngelo, 81, passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 23rd in her lifelong hometown of Binghamton, New York. Geraldine was born October 2nd, 1936 to Marie and Frederick Badger of Binghamton, New York. From an early age, Geraldine was active in the community. She met her husband Geno through Neighborhood Theater; they married in 1957 and raised 5 children on the south side of Binghamton. Gerry had many professional accomplishments including her work with Catholic Charities and her leadership of the YWCA Encore Plus Program, funding Mammograms for women in need. She supported her husband Geno`s career and ran 2 successful campaigns for his elected post of Sheriff of Broome County from 1990-1998. She served on multiple boards and community service initiatives that were dear to her. Gerry was a passionate republican and served as a past President of the New York State Women`s Republican Federation, and also served in a leadership capacity for the Broome County Women`s Republican Club for over 30 years. Gerry had many personal passions including golf, swimming, skiing, books, politics, wine, travel, gardening and the Arts. She was an avid reader, a history buff, and played an active role in the Friends of the Library Association. She was a long standing member of the Wine Society. Gerry and Geno enjoyed hosting parties in their home, traveling together and with friends. Gerry organized dozens trips for clubs and loved visiting New York City; enjoying Broadway shows and Museums. Gerry supported her husband and children in their Catholic faith and reconnected with her Church more recently becoming an active member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church. Geraldine was predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband of 43 years, Broome County Sheriff (ret) Geno DeAngelo, and her son Binghamton Police Sergeant Geno F. DeAngelo. She is survived by her 4 Children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; Christopher DeAngelo and his children Christopher and Deanna of Millsboro Delaware; Phillip DeAngelo and wife Elizabeth of Binghamton, and children Michael, Scott, Cara, Gina and grandchildren Brady and Jake; Daughter in law Karen DeAngelo of Binghamton, and her sons Marcus, Geno, Rocco, Gianni and grandson Giovani; Linda Lidell and husband Mikel of Binghamton and their son Nicholas; Amy DeAngelo and husband John Ruotolo of Darien CT, and their son William. Geraldine is also survived by her brother Frederick Badger, his wife Jacqueline of Scottsdale Arizona. Geraldine will be greatly missed by additional extended family, nieces, nephews, close friends, and the lives she impacted with her generous spirit, quick wit and zest for enjoying life. Funeral services will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 83 Main Street Binghamton, Saturday at 10 a.m. Reverend Lea Harding will officiate. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton Friday from 4-7 p.m. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Gerry may be made to any charitable organization.
