Marshall A. Holmgren, 95, passed away peacefully in his home on May 24, 2018. He was born on December 21, 1922 in Chicago, the son of John and Gladys (Lempke) Holmgren. Marshall received a BS in Business from Northwestern University. He married Marian Larsen on September 4, 1947, in Chicago. Marshall served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific during the second World War. He worked in the paint industry his entire career, first in outside sales, then the last 22 years managing a paint store… Read More » in Beloit, which drove him to move his family to Rockford in 1962. Marshall had a passion for golf, fishing, and tending his garden, although family and the Green Bay Packers always came first. Marshall is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marian; son, David (Janet) of Rockford; daughter, Holly (Larry) Paul of Sleepy Hollow; grandchildren, Peter (Sydney) Holmgren, Eric Holmgren, Tina Paul, Laura (Brian) Shepherd; and great-grandchildren, Tynne Holmgren, Madison Paul, Lily Shepherd, and Mia Shepherd. Memorial services will be held at 11am on Friday, June 8, 2018, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, 2715 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61109. A visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 until time of service. Memorials are preferred to Northern Illinois Hospice, 4215 Newburg Rd., Rockford, IL 61108, or to Shepherd of the Valley.
