Obituary for Virginia Reeve Pense Moore Virginia Reeve Pense Moore, 90, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018. She is survived by her husband Thomas McGwynn Moore, daughter, Libby Palmer (Tom), Tom Moore’s daughters, Lauren Nelson (Steve), Lesley Lynch (Brian); grandchildren, John Palmer (Michelle), Tim Palmer, Lyn Nelson and great granddaughter, Maylin Palmer. Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband Jesse Pense. Born December 12, 1927 to Daphine and Roy Reeve, Virginia grew up in Black Rock, Arkansas and Willow Springs, Missouri. With three siblings, Rosalie, Roy, and Eddie, Virginia lived an adventurous childhood of horseback riding and music. Following WW II, she was the only female telegraph operator which led her to meet her first husband Jesse “over the wire.” Through his career they lived in New Orleans, Kansas City, Dallas, Memphis, and Ridgewood, NJ. Everywhere she lived she made a difference as a dedicated volunteer for many organizations, a fabulous cook, a talented seamstress, and a welcoming, organized hostess. Her sense of humor, love of learning, and complete devotion to family and friends was evident in everything she did. After retiring to Charlotte and the loss of her first husband, Virginia was lucky enough to meet Tom Moore and marry, increasing her family and adding a wonderful 26 years of marriage where they traveled the world and enjoyed watching their grandchildren grow up. Virginia was a member of PEO Chapter E and Myers Park United Methodist Church. The family’s deepest thanks go to the caregivers at Plantation Estates who helped her graciously live with dementia in her later years. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Myers Park United Methodist Church in the Francis Chapel, the family will receive friends after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to A Child’s Place, 601 E 5th Street; Charlotte 28202 or to the Samaritans’ Fund at Plantation Estates, Matthews, NC.
