Obituary for Mr. Leon Lewis Gaines Mr. Leon Lewis Gaines, 90, of Elberton, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 in Kindred Hospice. Born on February 17, 1927, Mr. Gaines was a native of Elbert County. He was the son of the late Charles Alexander and Nancy Cordell Gaines. He was also preceded in death by one sister and five brothers. He retired from Jackson Mills in Iva, South Carolina after 44 years of employment. Mr. Gaines was a member of New Bethel UMC and the Philomathea Masonic Lodge #025 and enjoyed playing cards and gardening. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Pauline Ussery Gaines; one daughter, Melinda Bryant, of West Union, SC; grandson, Blane Bryant, granddaughter, Macie Bryant and one sister, Jennie Thompson, of Iva, SC. Funeral services were held at 3:00pm, Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in New Bethel UMC with Rev. Ann Mann, Rev. Mack Fleming and Rev. Robert Paris officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. A time of visitation was held Tuesday at 2:00pm until service time in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
