John F Walland 2018

John F. Walland
October 1, 1940 – March 18, 2018
John Walland passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, March 18, 2018 following a long illness. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 1, 1940 to the late Joseph and Frances (Rotar) Walland. After graduating from Collinwood High School, he attended Miami University in Ohio where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1964.
He was known as a loyal friend staying close to lifetime friends as he moved around the country, spending the most time in Sidney, Ohio, Wakefield, Rhode Island, and the Hilton Head/Bluffton area in South Carolina.
As much as he cared about his friends, nothing mattered more than his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 32 years, Dr. Debra Walland; his children Joseph (Jodi) Walland of Tipp City, Ohio and Lori (Dr. Julian) Gordon of Johns Creek, Georgia; sister Sally (Ron) Primc; brothers Joseph Walland and James (Pamela) Walland; grandchildren Jessica, Jacob, Joshua and Jeremy Walland; and twelve nieces and nephews.
John was an advocate for abused or stray animals, supporting many shelters and humane societies. Often, the most difficult animals to place were adopted into his own home. Please, in lieu of flowers, send a donation to the animal welfare group of your choice.
The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton, South Carolina on Tuesday, April 10 at 10:30 am.
