Mrs. Ethel Mae “Fibbie” Weeks Smith was born on May 6, 1931 in Olanta, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Alex and Rosanna Brown Weeks. She departed her earthly life on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at McLeod Hospice House after an illness.
“Fibbie” attended the publc schools of Florence County. She was formerly employed as a housekeeper for Dr. Frank and Margaret Lee for several years until her retirement.
Ethel was known as the “Mother” of Southern Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years. She formerly served on the usher board and she sang with the Senior Choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, JC Smith; her brother, Charles Henry Weeks; her sister, Amy Williamson; and a grandson, Boyd Lee Cheek, III.
Those left to cherish her memories include: one daughter, Geraldine Cheek of Florence, SC; one son, Willie “Jit” (Willie Mae) Smith of the home; her step-son, Billy (Sylvia) McPherson; three grandchildren: Kendall Smith of Florence, SC; Tameka (Ricardo Blakney) Cheek of Florence, SC; and Schyler McPherson of TX; eight great-grandchildren: Queenie Smith, Leeyah Smith, Ty’Lee Ford, Rachel Smith, Kaylee Smith, Kayce Smith, Ricardo Blakney, Jr. and Kendall Smith, Jr.; special family: Fredrick (Claudette) Myers, Roscoe (Myrt) Frost and Chris (Kita) Frost; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
