John Paul Tomaska Jr., 78, of Carlinville, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at Carlinville Rehab and Health Care in Carlinville.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Peru with Rev. Gary Blake, pastor, officiating. Private interment will follow in Peru City Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mueller Funeral Home, Peru.
John was born September 9, 1945, in Blue Island, the only son of John Paul and Emily (Baytus) Tomaska. He graduated from Blue Island High School in 1963 and Southern Illinois University Carbondale in 1967. He married Wanda Kondracki in 1967.
John worked for 40 years as a meat buyer for Rose Packing in Chicago, retiring in 2006. He was an avid fisherman, golfer, Chicago sports fan, and a model railroading enthusiast. In his younger years, John was an outstanding 16-inch softball player who was inducted into the Chicago 16 Inch Softball Hall of Fame. More than anything, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Wanda Tomaska, of Carlinville; two daughters, Melissa (Douglas) Olivero of Peru and Amy (Larry) Igl of Jamestown, ND; a son, John Paul Tomaska, III, of Indiana; and four grandsons, Cameron, Andrew, Alex, and Ethan.
John was preceded in death by his parents.
