Obituary
Mrs. Rachel Lea Adams 86, formerly of Pulaski, Illinois was called home Saturday September 30, 2023 at SIH Herrin Hospital in Herrin, Illinois.
Rachel was born on June 10 th 1937, to the union of the late O’Neal “Pike” Schoffner and Lovie B. Hutchins (Lane).
Rachel was united in marriage to the late Earl William Adams and they were blessed with four children; Freda, Marva, Darrell, and the late Earl William Adams Jr (June bug). Rachel’s church affiliation was with Church of God and Son of Mounds, Illinois, under the leadership of Reverend Artie Dickerson. She attended faithfully until her health began to fail. Rachel attended Banneker grade and High school. Racheal’s hobbies were working all sorts of crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting, and selling Lucky Heart cosmetics’. Rachael enjoyed tremendously her time as a home beautician “always chatting it up with her many customers”. Racheal of course took pride in her creative meal preparations and taking care of her loving family.
Rachel was preceded in death by her Mother Lovie B. Hutchins (Lane), Father O’Neal “Pike” Schoffner, husband Earl Adams Sr. and one son Earl Adams Jr, three sisters; Irene McBride, Lovie Mae Thompkins, Gloria Watson, and one granddaughter Alisha Adams.
Rachael leaves to cherish her memories: Two daughters Freda Jeanette Schoffner, Mounds, Illinois, and Evangelist Marva Lavette (Kent) Purchase, Cairo, Illinois, One son Minister Darrell Gene (Sandra) Adams, Pulaski, Illinois. Sister Phyllis (Kitty) Powell of Metropolis, Illinois, brother Harold (Jo) Milbourn of Chicago, Illinois. Rachel is also survived by her 14 grandchildren: Glen, Karen, Chris, Ronald, Wesley, Jonathan, Rita, Darina, Tara, Ethan, Andrea, Darrell Jr, Ashley, and Katie, 21 greatgrandchildren, a special friend; Wilma Jean (Bell) Morris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and frineds.
Service for Rachel L. Adams will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2023 at Zion Travelers Missionary Baptist Church- Mound City, IL. Visitation will be held at the church @ 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour @ 12:00 P.M. Funeral will begin @ 12:00 P.M. with Pastor Carl Whitaker officiating and Rev. Darrell Adams Eulogist. Internment will take place following the services in the Henderson Cemetery in Pulaski, IL 62976.
