Obituary
Ruth Lenore Bemis, 100 years old of Antioch, IL passed away Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the Village at Victory Lakes, Lindenhurst. She was born September 29, 1923 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Ernest and Agnes (nèe Message) Glenn. On June 17, 1944, Ruth married Robert Howard Bemis and he preceded her in death in 1983. Ruth was a longtime and very active member of the United Methodist Church of Antioch, IL. She loved reading and knitting and studying genealogy. Ruth spoke lovingly of her career as librarian and her time spent volunteering with the historical society in Antioch. Upon her retirement she was an avid traveler. She was also a very avid traveler in her early retirement.
Ruth is survived by her son, Robert Andrew (AiméeAimèe) Bemis; her two grandchildren, Daniel Robert Bemis and Callie Jean Bemis; her brother, James (Suzanne) Glenn; her three nieces, great-nieces, and great-nephew, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Henry (Shirley) Glenn.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 4:00p.m. until 6:30 p.m. with a Memorial Service to commence at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday the 19th of December, 2023 at Strang Funeral Home, 1055 Main St. Antioch, IL 60002. Inurnment was private in Hickory Union Cemetery, Antioch, IL. For additional information, call 847-395-4000. In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated to the Salvation Army.
