Mrs. Ruth Anna Garman Ruth Anna Garman, “Nancy”, 89 of Manassas, Virginia passed away at home surrounded by her family on January 26, 2023. Ruth was born in St. Lawrence, PA November 11, 1933. She was raised in Reading, PA. In her early life, Ruth began her first career as a seamstress in the Temple Sportswear Wide Awake Shirt factory. The sewing skills she gained from this job she would carry with her throughout her entire life and were passed down to many of her children and grandchildren. Ruth also frequently modeled and was featured in The Reading Eagle newspaper in fashion shows for modeling fur coats. In between working, she helped take care of her siblings, and when she could, she loved to go dancing and to play cards with friends. She was always on the go, involved in several ventures at once to keep herself busy. But above all, Ruth was a loving wife of 64 years to Samuel James Garman, a United States Marine Corp Korean War Veteran. They met in PA when Sam and his mom moved next door to Ruth and her mother. It didn’t take long for them to start courting and to fall in love, which turned into a 64 year marriage. When they retired from the military, they moved to Manassas in 1962. Ruth worked for the School Systems as a cook while raising their 6 children, and then Ruth began her second career with The Hecht Company, selling big ticket items. She loved that job. When she eventually retired from Hecht Company, she spent several years in the new phase of her life as a grandmother and spent most of her time watching her grandchildren grow, on top of participating in her many card groups and bowling teams. In time, Ruth and Sam retired in Mt. Jackson, Virginia in 1990. During her time in Mt. Jackson, Ruth became an active member of St. John Bosco Catholic charity, helping the less fortunate. Ruth also was a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary affiliated with Posts 199 and 10 for 22 years. Ruth was proud to be an active and consistent member of the community, volunteering to work food drives, holiday gift giving for the less fortunate, and volunteered with the local Veterans Administration. Ruth was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was vibrant, determined, independent, strong, had a great sense of humor, and until her last moment, remained very young at heart. Ruth loved bowling, playing cards, rabbits, family celebrations, bingo, and crossword puzzles. Married to Samuel James Garman for 64 years, she was an amazing and adored wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by six children: Ronald, Dennis, Mark, Jill, Gail, and BethAnn, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Not many can say they were Best of Friends with their Mother, but we can.

Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Ruth Anna Garman November 11 1933 January 26 2023.
