Katherine Marie Andrade Cavallaro Sunday June 18th 2023

Sunday June 18th 2023
Katherine having been well loved for 100 years passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday June 18, 2023. She was born on April 21, 1923, to Dominic and Amelia (Capo) Cavallaro in Corning, New York. Katherine was married for 27 years to Edward Martin Louiz in Corning on September 27, 1947. Edward predeceased her in 1979. She later married to Joseph Andrade for 5 years, and he predeceased her in June of 1985. She was also predeceased by five of her brothers, Nicholas, Benjamin, Anthony, Julie, and Rosario Cavallaro: as well as two of her sisters Mary Bucher and Josephine Sloth. She is survived by her brother, Larry Cavallaro and sisters Eileen Carlineo, Annie Schutt and Rose Marie Fritz and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Kay was surrounded by love and blessed with her three children, eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Her daughter Ann Marie (Tom Cardman) and their four children and their six grandchildren: Kathleen (Ryan), Maya and Macy Waid: Jamie Marie (Kevin) Evitt and Colton Straub: Theresa (Seth) Alexa and Lucie Lind; and Michael and Lauren Cardman. Her son Edward and Patricia Louiz. Her son John Louiz and his four children and six grandchildren: Erika (Phil) Rowdy and Boone Clark: Danielle (Michael) and Caterina Brutsman: Ben Louiz and his children Ashlynn and Blayke: Jacob Louiz and his daughter Harley (deceased). There are so many gifts that Katherine shared with family and friends, most importantly her faith. She led by example with her devotion to Mary, to the Rosary, and to her daily prayers. John 6 1-15 (the multiplication of loaves and fishes) best describes how Katherine shared her love. Her home was always open, people were always welcome, and certainly well fed. She often thanked neighbors and friends for their acts of kindness with a fresh batch of homemade pizzelles! Her fried meatballs were high on the list of family favorites and her sauce recipe has been shared with love and care. The family is thankful for her teaching her grand and great grandchildren how to make them. Katherine had an enormous love of family and family traditions. Her family will continue to honor and treasure her family recipes especially during the holidays. She loved her time with both family and friends. She spent twenty-five years bowling and kept in touch with those friends for many years. She devoted much of her time to the love of her country through her involvement in The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She also was very involved (mostly with the kitchen crew) at the Marconi Lodge. All who know her have been blessed to witness her strength, to receive her support, seek her advice, and to have celebrated a loving 100 years of her life. In the words of her great grandchildren, Grandma Kay was a beautiful soul and gifted those around her not only with wisdom and happiness, but with a positive outlook on life and the strength to withstand challenges. Whether it was fighting for 100 years or learning a new Tik Tok dance with her great grandchildren to celebrate her birthday, Katherine showed a love for being with people and because of that we were blessed with her presence for so many loving years. There will be no calling hours. Carpenters Funeral Home is handling the arrangement for the Mass of Christian Burial which will be held at All Saint’s Parish Church on Friday June 23, at 9:30am, burial will immediately follow at the family plot at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Corning. The family requests that in lieu of flowers those who wish, may donate in Katherine’s memory to Corning Meals on Wheels at 144 Cedar Street Corning, N.Y. 14830 or online at cmowheels.com.
