James R. “Jim” Mears – aged 91, of Cape May and formerly of Pocono Summit and Coatesville, PA, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2023. He was born in Hatboro, PA on April 2, 1931. Jim grew up in Cape May, the class of 1949, and worked for Steger’s Beach Service during the 1940’s. He attended West Chester State Teachers College and enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. Upon graduation in 1956 he married his college sweetheart Freddie, became a school teacher, and enjoyed coaching various sports in the Coatesville Area School District for over thirty years. In their retirement years, Jim and Freddie moved to the Poconos where he loved to ski, ice skate and fish, and spend time with their grandchildren. He was predeceased by his mother, Mary D. Mears and his three brothers, Larry Doug and Bob, and his wife of 46 years, Freddie. He is survived by his daughters, Suzie Mears and Sally (and Bill) Brooker, and his two beloved grandchildren, Adam and Amanda. The family will be holding a private ceremony later this year.
