Obituary Velma Mabe Shelton, 95, left this earthly life Saturday, December 24, 2022, at Lifebrite Community Hospital of Stokes. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at Colonial Funeral Home Stokes Chapel with Pastors Dwayne Young and Melvin Shelton officiating. Friends will be received from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday prior to the service. Interment will follow at the Hylton Family Cemetery. Mrs. Shelton was born November 13, 1927, in Stokes County, to the late Weldon Mabe and Rosa Bullins Mabe. She was a member of New Birth Baptist Church. Velma was a skilled seamstress, loved quilting, and crocheting. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Shelton; and brothers, Bethel Mabe and Truman Mabe. Survivors include her son, Melvin Shelton (Ann); daughter, Frances Young (Ronald); sister, Stella M. Carter; five grandchildren, Dwayne Young (Sheri), Rhonda Kimrey (Ron), Anthony Young (Aimee), Melanie Seay (Dennis), and Kimberly Farmer (Chad); six great-grandchildren, Luke Kimrey, Ashton Kimrey, Jack Young, Emmi Seay, Presley Seay, and Noah Farmer, Kennedy Farmer, and a baby on the way, Alice Young. The family would like to thank the staff of Lifebrite Community Hospital of Stokes for their compassion and care during Mrs. Shelton’s illness. Memorials may be made to New Birth Baptist Church, P.O.
