Obituary Ted Robinson Kelly, 73, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2022 at Hospice Haven in Rockingham. Mr. Kelly was born August 31, 1949 in Montgomery County, a son of the late Alfred and Anna Robinson Kelly. Ted proudly served his country in the US Army. Following his military service, he worked as a lineman and dispatcher with CP&L/Progress Energy, retiring after 27 years of service. He also owned and operated Racetrack Campground, where he met people from all over, and operated a sawmill. A beloved husband, father, and granddaddy, Ted always put his family before himself. He enjoyed being outdoors, and one of his favorite pastimes was riding his John Deere Gator to feed the flying squirrels near his home. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Tony and Doyle Kelly. He is survived by his wife, Deborah “Debbie” R. Kelly; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Lindsay Kelly; granddaughters, Madison and Emma; sisters, Jan McLendon (Bobby) and Brenda McLendon, and his beloved canine companion, Reesey. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Richmond County Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12:30 – 1:30 pm Thursday at Carter Funeral Home and at other times at the home. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his nurse Miranda, for her kind and compassionate care. Memorials may be made to the Richmond County Humane Society or to Richmond County Hospice.
