JoAnn (Joan) C. (Trancygier) Szczechowski of Manitou Beach, MI passed away on November 23rd, 2022, at Beaumont Hospital in Trenton surrounded by family. She is survived by her husband, Walter P. Szczechowski, sons Michael (Wendy), David, Dennis (Sequoya), Robert ( Kari), and Brian (Kim), daughter Mary Lynn (Danny), 20 grandchildren, and brother Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Agnes (Torolski) Trancygier, and older brother Edward. JoAnn was born in Wyandotte, MI and attended Mt. Carmel schools for 12 years. She was a devoted Catholic, an active member of St. Stanilaus Kostka Parish until its closing, and most currently she attended St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Church in Manitou Beach for the last 15 years. While she worked various part time jobs over the years, she was primarily a stay-at- home mother. JoAnn gave freely of her time at various church and school functions. In her younger years, she coached varsity girls basketball at Mt. Carmel and had a league championship team. She also coached girls basketball at St. Stan’s. JoAnn was married to her high school sweetheart, Sonny, for more then 58 years. She was a loving and devoted mother of 6 children, and a proud grandmother of 20 grandchildren. JoAnn loved spending time with her family and friends at the lake. She enjoyed attending her children’s, then grandchildren’s sporting events. She was an avid bingo player and an all-around lovely person with many friends. Visitation will be held at Czopek Funeral Home on Monday, November 28th, from 1:00pm-8:00pm. JoAnn will lay instate at Our Lady of the Scapular Catholic Church at 9:30am on Tuesday, November 29th. The funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am by Fr. Wally Ptak followed by interment at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, which was a charity near and dear to JoAnn’s heart. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary’s on the LAke in Manitou Beach in the near future To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Joann, please visit our floral store.
