Jean J. Schaeffer, 96, a resident of Davenport, died Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Kahl Home in Davenport. Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home in Davenport. Memorials may be made to St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Jean was born August 10, 1926 in Davenport the daughter of George and Mary (Ebert) Janssen. She married Albert Schaeffer, June 24, 1946. He preceded her in death October 28, 2006. Jean was a faithful member of St. Alphonsus Church, active in the funeral choir, Altar and Rosary, and led the members in cleaning the church for many years. Those left to honor her memory include her daughters and sons –in-law, Catherine Murphy, Moline; Barbara and Michael Sarich, Davenport; Mary and Gary Garretson, LeClaire, Iowa; and Rosemary Schaeffer, Davenport, Iowa; sons and daughters-in-law, William and Karen Schaeffer, Donald and Michelle Schaeffer, Robert Schaeffer, and Richard Schaeffer, all of Davenport; 19 loving grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; son, James Albert Schaeffer; sisters, Dorothy, Verna, Margaret, Marie, and Kathleen; and brothers, George, and Harry.
