Elsie Harman Puryear November 4, 2022 Share this obituary Send Sympathy Gifts Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Puryear, Elsie Harman, 91, of Ashland, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2022. She was the last living child of the late Jordan Lee and Cora Alderman Harman. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James “Pete” M. Puryear, Sr. and their daughter, Wanda Lee Puryear. She is survived by her son, James “Jamey” M. Puryear, Jr. (Karen); grandchildren, Ryan Puryear, Logan Puryear (Geneva) & Madison Berry (Connor); sisters-in-law, Jackie and Dee Puryear; and numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends. Mrs. Puryear was a Life Member of the Ashland Volunteer Rescue Squad Women’s Auxiliary and a decades long member of Winn’s Baptist Church where she served in many capacities. Mrs. Puryear loved tending her flower gardens, collecting antiques of all kinds, dressing fashionably, and most of all adoring her grandchildren. The family extends their sincerest gratitude to Hospice of Virginia and Elizabeth Adam Crump Health and Rehab for providing excellent care and comfort throughout these last difficult months. The family will receive friends at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home , 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, Va., 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2022; where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2022. Interment to immediately follow at Signal Hill Memorial Park, Hanover, Va. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
