Michael J. Higgins, age 81 of Madison Heights, Michigan passed away on November 1, 2022 at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Michigan. He was born on November 11, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Lloyd and Marguerite Higgins. Michael was the 9th child among 10 siblings. He lived a full life and in addition to taking care of his family was very active in his community. He touched and helped many through his Catholic faith, community positions, and volunteer work. Growing up, he attended St. Gregory Church and served as an alter boy. At the age of 14 he joined the Boy Scouts of America, which he was involved with for many years including attaining the rank of Eagle Scout and being a Scout master. He served for a time as a police officer on Mackinac Island and at one time considered becoming a priest. He joined the family printing business, working with his father, which led to him being in the profession for the rest of his life. He and his wife of 52 years, Krystyna, were married in 1970 and blessed with two children, Jeffry and Andrew, being very active in their lives. He loved sports including coaching their teams and always made time to attend every game of every sport they played. The family attended St. Vincent Ferrer Church where he served as an usher and was part of the Ushers Club for many years. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus for the City of Madison Heights, filling the position of its first Grand Knight. He served multiple terms as an elected official of the Lamphere School Board as well as being on the Board of Commission for the City of Madison Heights. The family enjoyed camping throughout the boys childhood and later. Mike and Krystyna enjoyed cruising. He was very spiritual and enjoyed praying the rosary regularly. A joyful moment of Mike’s life was the birth of his grandson Garrett, who he enjoyed spending time with and attending sporting activities. He loved golf throughout his life, all the way to the end, and even though he had difficulties with eye sight in later years still enjoyed being with friends and playing the game. While we are heartbroken by this loss we are thankful and grateful to have shared our lives together and we celebrate his life dedicated to family, faith, and community. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 4th from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 pm at Hopcroft Funeral Home, 31145 John R.
