Hayes, 64, of Poughkeepsie, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. A lifelong resident, he was born on February 26, 1958, in Poughkeepsie and was the son of the late Donald W. and Dorothy C. Davis Hayes. Ed was a graduate of BOCES. He worked as a cleaner for N&S, as well as kitchen help for IBM, Abilities First, St. Francis Hospital and Marist College. Ed was the first Handicap person on the East Coast as a member of Eagle Scouts. He was also a Knights of Columbus member, 3rd Degree. On August 20, 1988 Ed married Deborah Ann Chapman at Holy Trinity Church and she survives at home. Ed and Debbie were the first couple to get married while in the Abilities First Program. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church, as well as an Usher. He loved country music, John Wayne and everything country. In addition to his wife Ed is survived by his siblings; William and Lynn Hayes of Milton, NY, Timothy and Karen Hayes of Poughkeepsie and Jean Hayes Maton (and the late David Maton) of Dover, FL. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 2:00 – 5:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery.
