Tomczak, 91 of Helenville, passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the home of her son, Dwight in Jefferson. Dorothy was born on April 26, 1931, in Sault Sainte Marie, MI, the daughter of Nicholas and Pearl (Hutte) Peffers. She graduated from high school in Manitowoc, WI in 1947. She married Gerald Tomczak in July on 1959 in Okauchee, WI and the couple enjoyed 28 years of marriage until his death in 1987. Dorothy worked as a Nursing Assistant at Countryside Nursing Home (now Alden Estates) of Jefferson for 23 years, retiring in the early 1990’s. She also worked at Harley-Davidson Motor Co. in her earlier years and loved riding on motorcycles. Although she couldn’t swim, she and Gerald took many runs whitewater rafting in a canoe. She was known to pack up the family and head up north on a whim and was fearless her entire life. Her home-cooking was legendary, and she was an avid reader. Dorothy was independent and very able to take care of herself, living on her own in Helenville after her husband’s death until recent months. The mother of 4 boys, she raised them to be tough and was a wonderful example of the trait. Known as “Grandma Yoda” because of her small build, her family remembers “the force being strong with that one”. She was loved dearly and will be missed. Dorothy is survived by: 3 children Dwight (Bobbie) Tomczak of Jefferson, David (Wendy) Tomczak of Cambridge, and Terry (Donna) Tomczak of Rome; 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and her sister Barbara Dunn of Watertown. She is also survived by a number of other family members and many friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Dwayne Tomczak in 2018, and her brother Ted Peffers. The family would like to express a sincere thank you to the staff of Rainbow Hospice Care, especially her nurse Sarah Padigireddy for the loving care provided. Memorials in Dorothy’s name to Rainbow Hospice Care would be greatly appreciated. A memorial service will be held in the spring of 2023, and she will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Cemetery in the Town of Oconomowoc.
