Donald Dean Schuler passed away peacefully in his sleep in Naples on Tuesday night November 22, 2022. He was born on August 23, 1931, in Franklin County, Iowa to Verna Schuler and Virgil Schuler. He was the 4th of 6 children. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1951, where he was a star football player. Right out of high school, he entered the Navy and served during the Korean War on the USS Kearsarge. After serving in the Navy, he married his high school sweetheart Ruth JoAnne Winter on November 26, 1955. He attended college and graduated from Drake University. He became a teacher in the Des Moines area and coached wrestling and football. In his mid-40s he became a juvenile counselor in Polk County, Iowa. During this time, he lived in Johnston, Iowa with his family. In his early 60s he retired and moved to Marco Island, Florida with his wife, Ruth. In his later years of retirement, he moved to Naples, Florida. He enjoyed walking on the beach, fishing, boating, visiting restaurants and taking cruises with his wife. During his retirement he was known for cooking delicious meals for his children and grandchildren and watching his grandchildren play sports. Donald is survived by his wife, Ruth (married for almost 67 years), children Christina (Gregory) Woods and Kathleen (Warren) Sparks. He is also survived by his 4 grandsons Jeffrey and Zachary Woods, Warren and Winter Sparks.
