Obituary Donald Edward Jones, 85, of Fayetteville, PA, passed away Sunday afternoon, November 27, 2022 at his home on his birthday. Born November 27, 1937 in Waynesboro, PA, he was the son of the late Genevieve E. (Jones) Snively. Donald attended Waynesboro Area High School and had served his country in the United States Army. He retired in 1989 after working seventeen years on the Alaska Pipeline and with the Exxon Valdez oil spill. During that time, he was most proud of having driven 10 round trips from Pennsylvania to Alaska. Donald loved jazz music, played both the piano and saxophone and had traveled the world. He worked at Churchill Downs in Kentucky for a brief time and later in life could still name each Triple Crown winner along with the year the horse won the crown. He attended Dance Camp in Sweden and was still dancing into his early 80’s. After he retired from working on the Alaska Pipeline, Donald traveled to South Africa to learn how to raise ostriches, later raising them on his property in Pennsylvania for a few years. He is survived by his companion, Dolores Lopez of Latham, NY; his two sons, Donald Edward Jones, Jr. of Maineville, OH and Erwin Dale; two granddaughters, Ashley Jones of Maineville, OH and Rachel Rivera of Chicago, IL; one great-granddaughter, Natalia Hernandez of Chicago, IL; six sisters, Phyllis Holiday of Chambersburg, PA, Sharon McKeller of Hampton, VA, Joanna Beaufils of Enola, PA, Joyce Crutchfield of Harrisburg, PA, Wanda Van Brakle of Gettysburg, PA and Regina Magwood of Middletown, MD; two brothers, Gregory Snively of Waynesboro and James Snively of Chambersburg, PA; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his son, Donaldo Jones; his grandson, Sidney Jones; sister, Cheryl Ann Snively; and brothers, Prearre W. Jones and J. Michael Snively. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 6, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 South Broad Street, Waynesboro. Burial will follow in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro where military graveside honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599, Chambersburg.
