Catherine Nora Schurz May 8, 1991 – September 8, 2022 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Catherine Nora “Cate” Schurz, 31, of North Wales, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2022. Born May 8, 1991 in Meadowbrook, PA, she was the daughter of David and Marian (Overington) Schurz. Cate attended Abington Friends School and graduated from The Mill Creek School in Philadelphia. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Guilford College in criminal justice and political science. At Guilford she was a Quaker Leadership Scholar, a member of the College Democrats, and Editor of the World and Nation section of The Guilfordian. In 2013 she earned the distinction as a Reporting Fellow and Grantee for the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting. She then attended City University of London for graduate work in both law and international journalism. While in graduate school, she served as Editor in Chief of the University Law Review. Cate adored living in her beloved London for 7 years and called it her second home. She was passionate about politics, writing, travel, and her many friends around the globe. Cate was baptized and confirmed at God’s Love Lutheran Church in Newtown and more recently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lansdale. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her siblings, Maeve E. Schurz of North Wales, David L. Schurz (Mariza) of Montana, Alicia L. Soltmann (William) of Texas, and Corrine Schurz-Clark (Elle) of Michigan; her maternal grandmother, Nora K. Overington of Warrington; four nieces and nephews, Hannah, Aaron, Sophia, and Sinjin; and a large extended family of many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Relatives and friends may call after 12:30 p.m. Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., Lansdale, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the church columbarium. Arrangements are by the Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, Lansdale. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in Cate’s memory to NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, 4301 Wilson Blvd., Suite 300, Arlington, VA 22203.
