On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, Adolph “Albert” Straub, a beloved husband and father, passed away at the age of 80 years old. Formerly of Williamstown, NJ, Albert was born on June 24, 1942, to Adolph “Barney” and Abbie Straub. Albert and Edie Chew were high school sweethearts at Williamstown High School. They began dating in 1958. The two became very fond of one another and were married on October 27, 1962. Albert and Edie built an admirable life together and raised two children. During the 1960s and 70s, Albert served in the National Guard as a diesel mechanic. Albert was a hardworking man and retired from the Heavy and General Laborers Local 172 after 33 years and was a volunteer firefighter with the Williamstown Fire Department for 56 years. Like many retirees, Albert moved to Cape May for a laid-back retirement. That lasted for about 5 minutes. Albert became a regular volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in Cape May County and helped build many homes. Family gatherings were important to Albert. He would build a picnic bench for each home he helped build, ensuring that each family had somewhere to gather. Albert was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping trips with family, and he had a passionate love for pickleball. Many campground neighbors were gifted with pickleball men thanks to Albert. Who knew he also loved arts and crafts? Albert is dearly missed and forever loved by his family which includes his wife of 60 years, Edie Straub; daughter, Robin DiFlorio-Straub (Anthony DiFlorio); son, Douglas Straub (Carol Straub); 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11:00 am at the Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington St., Cape May where the family will receive friends from 10am – 11am. Interment will be private and at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in Albert’s memory to Cape May United Methodist Church or Habitat of Humanity of Cape May County. *Note: it will probably be best to park in the ACME parking lot behind the church.
