Tommie’s Obituary Evangelist Tommie Lee Thomas was born November 1, 1927, in Newville Alabama the 10th child out of 15 to the late Tommie and Annabelle Alexander. She was the last living sibling. She departed this life on May 12, 2021 surround by family. She attended school in the Alabama school system. She moved to Springfield in 1944 where she married the love of her life, Louis F. Thomas, in 1950. She was an excellent stay-at-home mom, once her children grew up, she worked at Sickles, Diamond Match, and Cromwell Mills. She loved reading but more specifically, bible passages and the daily newspaper. She was called to preach at the early age of 7 years old. She preached and taught the bible as often as she could. She gave bibles to friends and family often. She loved attending church and studying the word of God. In 1967 her husband was transferred to Philadelphia for work, there Evangelist Tommie Lee Thomas’s ministry took off. She preached at many local churches. She attended Holy Trinity COGIC under the leadership of Bishop Jefferson and then under the leadership of Bishop Morgan, Church of the Living God under the leadership of Bishop Marshall, New Hope COGIC, where her mother was the church mother, under the leadership of Bishop Franklin and Mother Franklin. Mother Franklin said she was an anointed child of God when she was young. Upper Room COGIC under the leadership of her brother-in-law and sister Pastor Alfonzo Parker and Lady Veola Parker. Until her death, she was a member and a mother at Spring of Hope COGIC under Bishop Talbert W. Swan I, and Bishop Talbert W. Swan II. Evangelist Tommie Thomas was known for her sharp dressing and singing in the choir. She brought various gospel groups to Springfield. She was a civil rights activist who worked with Attorney Arthur Serota and Bishop Covington (CT.) to help troubled youth. They held annual basketball tournaments at the Westley Methodist Church to keep the youth of trouble. She is predeceased by her husband Louis F. Thomas and 4 children. Ulysses (Joe) Bryant, James Earl Bryant, Elizabeth (Moss) Williams, and Ira Thomas. She is also predeceased by one grandson, Vincent Earl Bryant. Sisters Melissa White, Veola Parker, Lucy Mae Wilson, and Ophia Ayers. Brothers; Jim Alexander, Grady Alexander, Rufus Alexander, Addis Ayers Jr., Woodrow Ayers, and Thomas J. Alexander. She leaves to cherish her memory 4 children, David Allan Bryant, Patsy (Pepper) Thomas, Kenneth Thomas, and Miguel Bryant, 13 grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, family, and friends.
