Terry was born in Carroll County on January 17, 1947, to George William and Margie Tate Galey. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1965 and attended Mississippi Delta Community College, before graduating from Mississippi State University with a degree in Agricultural Economics. In high school, Terry and his twin brother, Jerry, worked for Farmers Supply checking cotton. He loved the interaction he had with farmers and being outside in the cotton fields. Upon graduation from college, Terry married the love of his life, Donna Dozier, and they moved to Louisiana, where he worked for John Deere Company in Alexandria and Lake Providence. Their hearts were calling them back home, so they moved to Sidon, MS, where Terry began his farming career as a manager for Richard Shaw, who became a strong mentor and great friend. It was in Sidon, with an opportunity from Mr. Shaw, that Terry began farming on his own. In 1985, Terry moved his family to Minter City, where he farmed for 31 years until retiring in 2016. Terry always enjoyed working the fields, loved the smell of freshly plowed earth, and seeing the fruits of his labor during the growing season, into harvest. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed growing cotton, soybeans and corn. His son, Colby, worked alongside him as he grew into a young man, enjoying their time together on the farm, as Colby came to love farming just as much. Terry served as president of Greenwood Farmer’s Club, was on the advisory board of Staplcotn, and served on the boards of Farmer’s Supply, Co-op Elevator, Leflore County Farm Bureau, Pillow Academy, Leflore County 4-H, Seven Pines Board, and on numerous committees at Minter City United Methodist Church. Terry loved hunting and fishing, especially as a young boy. There are many memories he loved to share of hunting and fishing with his father, brother, and uncles. He also enjoyed playing baseball and running track in high school. Later, he enjoyed watching his children in any of their activities and sports, and especially watching his grandchildren in anything that they did! His heart was filled with the greatest joy being with and supporting his family. Each one knows, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that he loved them and was proud of them; he made sure of that daily! Another thing they will always remember, is that anywhere he went, he was going to strike up a conversation with a stranger, and ask where they were from. He usually knew someone from their town or found something in common with them to talk about. There was never a dull moment in a waiting room or at a ballfield. Terry had a gift of laughter and for making others laugh. Terry had a soft spot for animals and would feed any stray dog or cat; many times, they became family pets. Terry grew up a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, where his family was very active. Later, in Minter City, Terry and his family joined Minter City United Methodist Church. After retiring to the hills of Carroll County, Terry and Donna began attending St. John’s United Methodist Church with their children and grandchildren. Terry was proceeded in death by his father, George Galey. He is survived by his wife, Donna Dozier Galey, his children, Jennifer Galey Marshall and her husband Brent, Colby Galey and his wife Geney, four grandchildren, Nolan Marshall, Libby Marshall, Callie Galey and Tate Galey, his mother, Margie Galey, his brother, Jerry Galey and his wife Sandra, four nephews, Matthew, Michael, Brad and Jason Galey, and great nephews and nieces, and many cousins with whom he had a close bond. A graveside service will be held Thursday, December 30, 2021 11:00 at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Coila. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm-6:00 pm on Wednesday, December 29, at Wilson and Knight Funeral Home. Those attending are asked to wear a mask when indoors. Pallbearers are Nolan Marshall, Tate Galey, Brad Galey, Matthew Galey, Michael Galey, Bob Tate, Timmy Lott, and David Howard. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the roof fund at Minter City United Methodist Church, 1203 Peggy Lane, Greenwood, MS 38930 or St. John’s United Methodist Church, 1001 Grand Boulevard, Greenwood, MS.
