Sophie (Alex) Elia, a lifetime New Britain resident, passed away Tuesday, December 15, 2020. Sophie was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Yousefian) Alex. After graduating from New Britain High School, Sophie entered into the working world. She worked at various jobs, the last held at the New Britain Herald. Sophie was known to be the Matriarch of the extended “family”. The most treasured moments of her life were those spent surrounded by those she loved. Her family meant everything to her. Sophie was an avid reader who was always on top of current events. She enjoyed cooking, especially ethnic dishes. A woman of strong faith, Sophie was a longtime member of the Armenian Church of the Holy Resurrection of New Britain, CT. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sophie was a strong, independent- minded woman, who lived up to her high standards. Sophie is survived by her three daughters, Francine Elia, Linda Elia, and Anna Maria Brakhia, her granddaughters, Alexandra Elia, and Samara Brakhia, and her great-grand daughters Alexis, Taylor, Amira, and Leilah, and her brother Charles Alex, and special friend Delores Del Campo, and several nieces and nephews. Sophie was predeceased by her husband, Francis Elia, her brothers Carroll Alex, Norman Alex, and Armen Alex, five sister-in laws, and son-in law Reverend Gabriel Brakhia. Rest peacefully mom, we love you and forever will hold you in our hearts. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, funeral services and burial will be private at the request of the family. The Paul A.
