Obituary Shirley Ann (Bruning) Johnston, 86, of Maumee, OH, formerly of Whitehouse, OH, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2021, at Hospice of Northwest Ohio in Perrysburg, OH with her loving husband Dick holding her hand. She was born in Toledo, OH on January 2, 1935, and was the daughter of Edwin & Freida Bruning. Shirley was a graduate of Anthony Wayne High School’s first graduating class in 1953. While in high school she was a cheerleader and a majorette. She enjoyed a career in Real Estate, but mostly loved being a mom. Shirley and Dick were members of Calvary Church in Maumee, OH. She married Richard “Dick” Johnston on June 5, 1954. He survives along with sons, Rick (Janet) Johnston, Ron Johnston, and Jerry (Alysia Hobling) Johnston, foster son Scott Dominguez, grandchildren, Tommy Johnston, Becky (Phil) Meyer, Andy Johnston, Kelly Johnston, Shelby Johnston and Grant Hobling, great grandchildren, Andrew, Evan, Rachel, Joshua, Jackson, Jade and Oliver, and sister-in-law, Mary Beroske. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Peg Zeigler. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Peinert-Dunn Funeral Home, 6603 Providence St., Whitehouse, OH. Funeral Services will be Friday, October 22, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Grand Rapids, OH.
