Obituary Robert W “Mert” Lund, age 89, left his family and friends on November 23, 2021, to be reunited with his wife, Shirley and son, Alan Jay (A.J.). Mert was the fourth of five children born to Hulgar and Agnes (Forseth) Lund in Waupaca, WI on March 11, 1932. Next to his family and friends, Mert loved to hunt ducks, deer, and pheasants. He also loved fishing, sturgeon spearing, bowling, running a set line, and smoking the fish he caught. He was also a master of the games of cribbage and sheepshead. Dad was a member of a few clubs. He was a founding member of both the Four Lakes Sportsman’s Club and the Midnight Cub, the Tapeworm Club (boy, they could eat), Van Dyne Sportsman’s Club, Oshkosh Ice, and Otter Street Fishing Clubs. Mert started working on the Soo Line Railroad, where he met Shirley. Uncle Sam took dad into the Army during the Korean Conflict. during his two years of service, he spent his tour of duty in Germany. After his discharge, he returned to Wisconsin and began his career with Wisconsin Public Service, where he worked for 39 years. He retired as a lead lineman. He married Shirley Mae Schneider, on August 27, 1955, and was blessed with five children. In the early 1970s, shortly after AJ’s passing, Mert took his family to Long Lake near Saxeville. They spent a weeklong of fun and fishing. Every year dad dropped his boat in the lake, the bluegill would start to tremble. Mert is survived by his daughters; Cindy and her husband Alan Frost and their children Catey and Bryan Frost, Jan and her husband Sean Adams, his sons Gary and his wife Kay and their children Brennan, Jessica and their son, Deacon, McKenzie Lund, son, Kurt and his wife Jill and Kurt’s three children with their spouses Meghan and Sydnee, Sara, and Jordan Roberta Mae (Bobbie) and Rhodey. His sister Barbara Fritz, sister-in-law Judy Schneider, brother-in-law Ken Schneider and his wife Millie. He is also survived by many nieces or nephews. Mert was preceded in death by his wife Shirley, son Alan, his parents Hulgar and Agnes, stepfather Byron Everts, sister Betty, and George Hunter, brothers Warren (Fusser) and Rosalind Lund, John (Jack) and Lorraine Lund, brothers in law Ron Schneider, Jack Sorenson and John Fritz, father and mother-in-law Karl and Margaret Schneider. Dad will be remembered for his many one-liners. Here are just a few; ‘keep your powder dry’; ‘who’s on first’; ‘you’re a good critter’; ‘whatever and I got CRS – can’t remember stuff’. Just because dementia took so much from dad, please remember he still loved his friends, “even if it was just a little” another of his one-liners. Funeral services for Mert will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, at the Konrad-Behlman Funeral Homes & Crematory (100 Lake Pointe Drive) at 7:00 p.m. with the Reverend Andi Wolf officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the service time. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park.
