Robert “Bob” Sutfin passed away peacefully at home on October 30, 2021, with his loving wife Cindy by his side. Robert, or Bob as most called him, was born to Lola and Elmer Sutfin in Corning on September 18, 1939. Bob joined siblings Wynn and Gartha at home and was later joined by brother Arthur. The Sutfin’s lived in Corning while Bob grew up where he attended Corning High School and graduated in 1957. In high school, Bob played football and was active in the F.F.A. program. After graduating he worked in the woods, falling trees and doing anything that needed to be done. That was the type of man he was, never scared of hard work and willing to do it all. From there he moved onto learning to be an electrician and spent several years working for Jenkins Electric in Corning. But eventually he left that job to pursue his true passion—farming. You could almost always find Bob somewhere in his Richfield prune orchard. He was a proud Sunsweet member and took a lot of pride in how his orchard looked and produced. He truly loved taking care of the trees. Besides his orchards, Bob enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports. He spent several years coaching Paul’s Little League teams. He and Cindy almost never missed a game and it didn’t matter if it was football, baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball, or field hockey. He was there supporting whichever kid was playing. Robert is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cynthia; his children Craig (Lynn) Sutfin, Amanda (Francis) Hopping, and Paul (Amber) Sutfin; and his grandchildren Shawna Sutfin, Sherri (Brock) Harden, Cara Haman, Sophie McEwen, Joshua (Andrea) Brown, Carson Hopping, Savannah Hopping, Cade Sutfin, Adde Sutfin, and Easton Sutfin; his sister Gartha Johnson and brother Arthur (Joan) Sutfin; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Wynn Sutfin. There will be a Celebration of Life for Robert at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 13th at the First Baptist Church Gym, 506 Colusa Street in Corning. Please join us for lunch while we celebrate his life and say goodbye. In lieu of flowers, you may honor Bob with a donation to the Corning F.F.A. Chapter. Donations can be sent to Corning High School, 643 Blackburn Ave, Corning with the hope of encouraging youth to be more involved in agriculture.
