Obituary Paul Birchfield, age 92, of Marion, NC was called home to be with the Lord Thursday, February 11, 2021. Paul was born October 28, 1928 in Swain County, NC to the late Jesse and Effie Hall Birchfield. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a lifelong member of Zion Hill Baptist Church. He worked in construction and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Paul loved his little dog and companion, Buddy. His passion was music. He played the fiddle and he taught his grandsons to play when they were very young, two of which are now professional musicians. Words cannot describe the love Paul had for music. Those left behind to cherish Paul’s memory are his beloved wife of 65 years, Mable Styles Birchfield; three daughters, Donna English (Greg) of Knoxville, TN, Debbie Birchfield of Nashville, TN and Dianna Bennett (Jeff) of Lexington, KY; three grandsons, who were his pride and joy, Andy Wood of Knoxville, TN, Brian Arrowood of Nashville, TN and Tommy Bennett of Lexington, KY; and one sister, Mildred Sprinkle of Marion, NC. The family will receive friends from 2:30 pm until 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 14, 2021 in the chapel of Westmoreland Funeral Home in Marion, NC. A funeral service to celebrate Paul’s life will follow at 3:00 pm at the funeral home with Dr. Tom Walker officiating.
